Kindle Arrested

So, I'm out of town, out of state and sometimes out of the loop.
Luckily, I was able to get some time on the internet today and learned that Sergio Kindle got arrested for DWI.
Just thought you should know. But you probably already do.

McGee Notes

San Antonio—Stephen McGee has packed on about 20 pounds since last season, and with the revelation that he was playing hurt all last year, he could be on the verge of living up to his potential.
McGee suffered a torn muscle in his throwing arm on the first day of two-a-days last year, and didn't throw again until the week of the first game.
"As a result," head coach Dennis Franchione said, "I think, as coaches we were probably trying to make sure he that he didn't sit in the pocket and take a beating and take too many sacks, and we encouraged him to run with the football, which may have been a little part of him not finding a second or third receiver sometimes."
While I can't see how encouraging your quarterback to run with the ball helps him avoid a beating—especially when considering that McGee doesn't like to go down without initiating contact—I do believe that the injury might be to blame for turning McGee into a run-first quarterback after setting passing records during high school.

McGee is apparently pretty smart two. With two years of eligibility left, he's going to graduate in the next couple of weeks. Already accepted to grad school at A&M, he'll be taking the minimum nine hours to stay eligible, he said.

The quarterback has always been linked to Colt McCoy, and they'll be compared forever. McGee understands that, but says he's friends with his Texas counterpart because Longhorn wide receiver Jordan Shipley is from Burnet, McGee's hometown.
Shipley has brought McCoy down to Burnet, where the quarterbacks have gotten to know each other.
"We have a lot of similarities," McGee said. "We like to hunt and fish, stuff like that."

Thorpe Prediction - Mini Feature

San Antonio—Another year, another Big 12 corner predicting he'll win the Thorpe Award. Aqib Talib from Kansas is this year's culprit.
"I see myself keeping it in the Big 12, taking it from Aaron Ross. I think he'd appreciate that," Talib said.
Talib, who says the Jayhawks gave away four games last year, and should have been 10-2, also said that 9 wins and a berth in the Big 12 title game was a reasonable projection for this year's team. Last year, he said, was a warm up season. 2007 is the real thing.

Dwain Crawford might be the most likeable football player you've never heard of. That probably has something to do with the fact that he's a Baylor Bear, and as a defensive back, he was overshadowed by C.J. Wilson (another Thorpe Award self-nominee) and Anthony Airline.
Unlike Rhett Bomar, it's pretty safe to assume he actually worked at his summer job. The junior works as a rancher, feeding cattle and putting out hay in the Texas sun near Waco.
"That's what I'm used to doing," says the Giddings native, who started working on an oil field at 15.
This is Crawford's second summer on the job. Before that, he was clearing a lot for a realtor. But swinging an ax in the heat of the summer wasn't for him.
"It sucked," he says.
So now he's home on the ranch.
Crawford says he doesn't necessarily need the money; he's just accustomed to holding down a job. But, with a truck to keep running, the money comes in handy.
"It's costing me like 75 bucks to fill it up," he says.

2007 Big 12 Media Days

San Antonio--I'm at the Wyndham-St. Anthony Hotel in downtown San Antonio for this year's Big 12 Football Media Days. A year ago tomorrow this blog was born at last year's Media Days in Kansas City, and it's still alive. Impressive, I know.

Today we'll hear from Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and Baylor. It'll be interesting to hear what OU's head coach Bob Stoops has to say about the wiped out 2005 season and its appeal. Luckily, he's up first in about half an hour.

His Sooners are ranked above Texas in Street & Smith's preseason poll as well as Blue Ribbon Yearbook's and Dave Campbell's Texas Football/FSN poll. All the other polls have the Longhorns higher— including one with them at No. 2 (Athlon Sports). Texas's lowest ranking is No. 8 by Street & Smith's and CBS Sportsline.

The Longhorns have several players on the 2007 Preseason All-Big 12 team. I find the exercise of selecting a pre-season team pointless (though its irrelevance pales when compared to preseason offensive and defensive players of the year and a newcomer of the year awards).

But, in case you care. OL Tony Hills, WR Limas Sweed, QB Colt McCoy, RB Jamaal Charles, DL Frank Okam, DL Derek Lokey and DB Marcus Griffin all made the team.
And the preseason offensive player of the year? That'd be McCoy.
